Description

1920 Quarter, MS67 Full Head
Stunning Border Toning

1920 25C MS67 Full Head PCGS. The 1920 is among the most frequently available pre-1925 dates in the Standing Liberty quarter series, giving collectors opportunity to be selective with their acquisitions. Regardless, collectors seeking a Superb Gem Full Head coin will find this date to be conditionally rare. We have previously handled only six MS67 Full Head coins since 1993, only one of which was within the last decade. The current coin is distinct from them, though, in its vivid and precise border toning that includes amber, olive, gold, and midnight-blue bands. This bold and memorable color suggests roll toning or old album toning. We previously handled a similarly toned 1920 in our 2024 FUN Signature, graded MS66+ Full Head PCGS CAC, which realized $10,200. Perhaps this coin is from the same original roll? Who can say. But it is beautiful. The luster glistens and is pristine, and the shield rivets are bold. Liberty's temple is incomplete but the hairline is present. The date is mostly bold, except for the almost-always-weak 1. PCGS Population: 11 in 67 (2 in 67+), 0 finer (3/26).(Registry values: N4719)
