Very Rare 1920-D Standing Liberty Quarter, MS67 Full Head, One of the Finest Known

1920-D 25C MS67 Full Head PCGS. The 1920-D has a rather unimpressive mintage of 3.58 million pieces. However, in high grades, and especially with full definition on Liberty's head, it is one of the most challenging issues in the entire series. In fact, Cline states that the 1920-D rates "closely parallel to the 1921, 1919-D, and 1919-S in uncirculated condition." We cannot be certain, but this coin sounds suspiciously like the piece referred to on page 88 of Cline's third edition. He states he has placed all three of the PCGS MS67s, and there are still only three today (and one MS68). He describes the coin as bright "with only a touch of light golden toning and is outstanding in every respect, with no distracting marks." That is a perfect description of this piece. In any case, the provenance of this quarter started, as so many high grade Standing Liberty quarters have, with J.H. Cline.
