Description

1924-S Quarter, MS65 Full Head
Near-Prooflike Reverse Fields

1924-S 25C MS65 Full Head PCGS. The 1924-S is a challenging acquisition in Full Head, especially as fine as MS65, with higher-grade Full Head coins rare. The current example boasts sharp head definition while retaining the usual softness on the shield rivets and the leading edge of the eagle's left (facing) wing. Light champagne, satiny luster over each side adds old-time multicolor toning in the margins. This piece exhibits several characteristics typical of the 1924-S, including myriad small die cracks in the border areas, heavy clash marks, and lapping. The lapping makes the fields striated and semireflective, bringing this coin -- especially its reverse -- as close to prooflike as Standing Liberty quarters are ever seen. That reflectivity is decidedly rare on any issue in this series. PCGS Population: 56 in 65 (5 in 65+), 21 finer (3/26).(Registry values: N2998)
