Description

1925 Quarter, MS67 Full Head
CAC, Among the Finest Certified

1925 25C MS67 Full Head PCGS. CAC. Ex: Pogue-Duckor. The 1925 is a pivotal issue in the Standing Liberty quarter series, introducing a design change as well as being a one-mint coin for the year. Mint State examples are split evenly between Full Head and non-Full Head grades, although the date is typically seen no finer than MS65 and sometimes MS66. In MS67, PCGS reports merely four non-Full Head coins and 19 Full Head pieces (three of which are Plus designated) with none finer (2/26). Though said Full Head Superb Gems are much rarer than even that number suggests, as only nine have previously appeared in our auctions, including multiple appearances of several pieces.

The design change to recess the date in 1925 means this issue is not plagued by the "flat date" problem of previous Type Two coins, and the corresponding portion of the reverse legend is almost always sharp. However, Liberty's head remains a point of typical weakness. The present coin has a well defined temple and ear area, and the hairline is just complete enough to satisfy PCGS and CAC. Regardless, the coin's chief attribute is perhaps its pristine preservation, with lovely champagne toning gracing the glistening surfaces. The ridge of Liberty's leg, typically showing the first contact marks on lower grade pieces, is essentially flawless on this coin.
