Description

Exceptional 1926-S Gem Full Head Quarter

1926-S 25C MS65 Full Head PCGS. CAC. The 1926-S quarter is typical of San Francisco Mint coins in the 1920s in that this facility had problems striking up coins. According to J.H. Cline (2007), the 1926-S and 1927-S are the most weakly struck of all S-mint pieces in the twenties. In line with this, one percent or less of '26-S quarters are struck with Full Heads.
The present Gem is exceptional for the fullness of Liberty's head and chain mail. Even the rivets, except for the two nearest Liberty's abdomen, are sharp. Highly lustrous surfaces are color free save for a wisp of barely discernible light tan on the lower left obverse. Both sides are remarkably clean except for a few unobtrusive grade-consistent grazes. Population: 15 in 65 Full Head, 10 finer (9/09).(Registry values: N4719)
