Description

1927-D Quarter, MS66 Full Head
Underappreciated This Fine

1927-D 25C MS66 Full Head NGC. An acquaintance of this cataloger used to jokingly refer to the 1927-D Standing Liberty quarter as "The Poor Man's '27-S," but in all seriousness, it is its own rarity in high grades. Coins Magazine contributor Mike Thorne has expressed a degree of admiration for the '27-D, rightfully suggesting it an underrated issue in high grade, at least when compared to its San Francisco counterpart. Full Head representatives are seldom seen in Gem condition, and finer pieces are far rarer than current price levels would indicate. This outstanding Full Head piece is awash in satiny ice-blue luster that reveals hints of champagne when tilted beneath a light. The shield rivets and the lowest two obverse stars are weak, as usual, but the undeniable originality of this coin ranks it among the finer '27-D representatives this cataloger has seen.(Registry values: N2998)
