Description

1927-D Quarter, MS66+ Full Head
Bold Overall Impression
Just One Finer at PCGS; None Finer at CAC

1927-D 25C MS66+ Full Head PCGS. CAC. Faint tinges of peach extend over much of the obverse, though part remains an untoned light silver. Fiery splashes of russet-brown and autumnal-yellow dance between the design elements on the obverse, particularly on the upper half, adding an exceptional pop of color. Striking quality is exceptional on Liberty's head, which exhibits all three of the leaves as well as substantial hair detail, and the leading edge of the eagle's left (facing) wing is also well defined. The shield rivets exhibit their usual softness, as does Liberty's foot and the adjacent stars, though this is nearly unavoidable on the 1927-D, even among Full Head coins.
The present offering is one of the finest extant Full Head survivors. A lone PCGS coin is reported finer, as are four NGC coins, though some duplication may exist in those figures. This Plus-designated piece ranks within the Condition Census for the issue, which is not surprising considering the quality of the coins in The Big Sky Collection of Standing Liberty Quarters. PCGS Population: 31 in 66 (7 in 66+), 1 finer (3/26). CAC: 15 in 66, 0 finer (3/26).
