Description

1927-D Quarter, MS67 Full Head
Condition Census Rarity

1927-D 25C MS67 Full Head NGC. The 1927-D is an underrated date in high grade Full Head. Among such coins, this example is within the Condition Census. NGC and PCGS combined report only five 1927-D Standing Liberty quarters in MS67 Full Head, and none are finer. We have previously handled only two different examples in this grade, one of which -- the former Gene Gardner coin -- we offered on four separate occasions; the Gardner coin's last appearance, in our October 2014 sale of the Eugene Gardner Collection, Part II, marks the most recent offering of any 1927-D in MS67 Full Head by any major auction firm.

The present coin is fresh to the market. Satiny luster yields light russet-gold toning, while a lack of distinct abrasions promotes strong eye appeal. Strike weakness on the shield rivets and on Liberty's toes is typical of this issue. Census: 4 in 67 Full Head, 0 finer (6/22).(Registry values: N7079)
