Description

1928-D Quarter, MS66 Full Head
Underappreciated Post-1924 Issue

1928-D 25C MS66 Full Head PCGS. CAC. Satiny, impeccably preserved surfaces display primarily light golden toning, with wisps of lavender intermixed over each side. The shield rivets and vertical lines are sharp, as are Liberty's head, the stars, and the eagle's feathers. An excellent representative of this notable condition rarity.

Population Data (4/15): PCGS reports 18 in MS66 (two in MS66+) Full Head and only two finer, an MS67 and an MS67+. NGC shows even lower totals, 10 in this grade and one MS67 Full Head finer.

Heritage Commentary: In Full Head, the 1928-D Standing Liberty quarter is a highly elusive and underappreciated condition rarity. Aside from the classic Full Head rarities, including the 1926-D and S and the 1927-S, the 1928-D is the scarcest post-1924 issue in Full Head. It is at least twice as rare in this category as the 1927-D and 1929-D, even taking into account the likelihood of inflated population reports. In that light, the importance of this Premium Gem Full Head example cannot be overstated.
