Description

1928-D Quarter, MS66 Full Head
CAC Approved, Impressive Strike
Few Known Finer

1928-D 25C MS66 Full Head PCGS. CAC. The Denver Mint is well known for its poorly produced coins from the 1920s, and the 1928-D quarter is one of the great strike rarities in the series. Full Head coins are typically seen no finer than MS65, with Premium Gems rare and just a few finer pieces known. In all grades, PCGS has certified just 100 examples with the Full Head designation. In addition to the bold head, this Premium Gem has a sharp shield, with only two indistinct rivets at 7 o'clock, and even those are faintly visible. This level of sharpness is rare on any 1925 or later Type Two quarter, as most pieces are either poorly struck or exhibit die erosion that softens the shield details. This piece is from an early die state, and its sharp strike provides a clear look at the lack of horizontal shield lines on the post-1924 Type Two hub. Both sides of the coin are highly brilliant with frosty and untoned silver surfaces. PCGS Population: 23 in 66 (3 in 66+), 3 finer (3/26). CAC: 9 in 66, 3 finer (3/26).
