Description

1928-S Quarter, MS66 Full Head
Rarely Encountered Finer

1928-S 25C MS66 Full Head PCGS. CAC. Frosty luster shines through pastel lavender and ice-blue toning on each side, with a few light splashes of olive-gold seen around the peripheries. Some minor strike weakness occurs in the central regions, but this is to be expected for this San Francisco issue, produced only one year after the infamous weakly struck 1927-S. Liberty's head is full, and the stars show above-average definition.

Population Data (4/15): Among finer examples in MS67 Full Head or higher. PCGS records only 18 submissions NGC 42. These figures likely include resubmissions.

Heritage Commentary: The 1928-S follows a peculiar pattern, along with the 1929-S and the 1930-S, defined by the certified population of MS66 and finer pieces being fairly balanced between Full Head and non-Full Head coins. Still, Premium Gem and finer Full Head coins are elusive in the absolute sense, the subject of intense interest among specialists who pursue unusually sharp examples.
