Description
1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, MS64
Lustrous and CAC Approved
1916 25C MS64 PCGS. CAC. The 1916 has the lowest recorded
mintage of the Standing Liberty quarter series at just 52,000
pieces, far below the next lowest official mintage of 396,000 coins
assigned to the 1927-S issue. The only issue in the series that
rivals the 1916s mintage is the 1918/7-S overdate Guide Book
variety, which had an unrecorded but likely small mintage.Despite its low mintage, the 1916 Standing Liberty quarter remains readily collectible due to knowledge of its scarcity being discovered early and many examples saved. Today, collectors may choose between specimens grading from Poor 1 up to MS67, and many Mint State coins are certified as Full Head. However, the higher-end coins tend to be highly sought after and are appropriately challenging to acquire. CAC endorsement is especially sought after on this issue. The current coin, then, with its CAC green label and beautiful luster, is surely worthy of a strong bid. Ivory-white hues and a shimmering cartwheel affect characterize each side, while a loupe reveals just a few small scattered marks that prevent full Gem classification. Liberty's head does not achieve what PCGS considers Full Head definition, although we challenge collectors to discern a difference between this coin's head detail and that of many coins certified as Full Head. All things considered, this is a lovely 1916 Standing Liberty. Listed among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins.
