Muhammad Ahmed (The Mahdi) 20 Piastres AH1302 Year 5 (1885), KM2, XF40 PCGS, a boldly struck piece with attractive light gray patina. Struck by The Mahdi at Omdurman in 1302AH. The Regnal Year 5 on this issue is thought to be counted from the beginning of his jihad in AH1298. His forces eventually set siege to Khartoum and defeated General Gordon and his British troops. Scarce type and grade. Piastre was the western term for the local denomination which was gurush.Metal: Silver
