    Description

Basel. City Medallic "Hen" Taler ND (1629-1653) MS64 NGC, SM-1162. By F. Fechter. A stunning medallic taler featuring a mother hen with chicks on one side and a city view of Basel on the other, the fields preserving a delightfully glassy finish visible across the entirety of the open expanses. Struck to pinpoint precision and laden with colorful toning that lends exquisite eye appeal to this well-preserved specimen. Similarly to the last example of the type we saw, which we offered as part of the Redwood Collection in August of 2016, this variety features a modified city-view and arms in the reverse exergue that lack basilisk supporters. A covetable example of this rare variety of an already elusive type. This lot is also sold with a later white-metal reproduction of the same type (not part of the Hesselgesser Collection lot).
