    Kagin-3, Normal N, 28G Centered

(1834-37) G$1 C. Bechtler Dollar, 28G. Centered, Normal N AU58 PCGS. CAC. K-3, R.6. The Bechtler family was well known in the southeastern U.S. during the gold rush of the early 1800s. From the earliest discovery of gold in the Piedmont region in 1799, the Carolinas and Georgia were the principal suppliers of gold in America until the California gold rust that began in 1848. The local citizens hesitated to send their gold to far away Philadelphia, and relied on Christopher and August Bechtler to turn the gold into coins. Even after the Charlotte and Dahlonega Mints opened in 1838, the Bechtler's continued a thriving business. This near-Mint example has pleasing green-gold surfaces with deep blue and pale orange peripheries. Population: 4 in 58, 1 finer (8/13).Population: 4 in 58, 1 finer (8/13).
