    Richly Toned C. Bechtler Two and a Half, 64G. 22 C., AU58

(1837-42) $2 1/2 C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle, 64G. 22C. AU58 NGC. K-11, R.6. Reverse: GEORGIA GOLD, uneven 22. Deeply patinated in milky golden-brown hues, with darker encrustations about the lettering. The strike and quality of the planchet are both excellent. As of (8/08), NGC has certified three pieces at the AU58 level, with only nine coins grading finer, although the census data is likely inflated due to multiple submissions of the same coin. The numbers at PCGS are similar and the total population for this issue at both services--all grades included--is a mere 36 coins. This is one of the two quarter eagle varieties in Bechtler's sixth series of Territorial gold coinage and is listed on page 358 of the 2009 Guide Book.
