    (1837-42) $2 1/2 C.Bechtler Quarter Eagle, 67G. 21C. MS61 NGC. Kagin-10, Breen-7753. Late die state with three cracks and struck from rotated dies. Beautiful, rich, cherry-magenta color hides almost reflective underlying luster. A small, diagonal mark in the field above the 25 of the denomination serves as identification. Remarkable quality for this variety and the finest we have offered in many years.
    The only quarter eagle of this type and quickly identifiable by the use of inverted Vs in the place of As. This is a rare issue with around 50 or so known pieces in all grades. There are only a handful of Uncirculated examples in existence. Listed on page 345 of the 2007 Guide Book. Census: 1 in 61, 5 finer (4/06). (NGC ID# 2B9F, PCGS# 10067)
