    AU58 C. Bechtler Gold Dollar,
    Piquant N Reversed K-4 Variant

(1837-42) G$1 C. Bechtler Dollar, N Reversed AU58 NGC. K-4, R.4. The Bechtler family provided much-needed circulating gold coinage during America's first little-known gold rush, in North Georgia and North Carolina starting in the 1820s and 1830s. The N Reversed dollar is a popular and fairly available, yet piquant reminder of the crude circumstances under which the coins were produced, yet the Bechtler coinage had an impeccable reputation that enabled the coins to circulate extensively. This K-4 piece shows moderate luster remaining under a light layer of field chatter with few overt marks. Listed on page 373 of the 2013 Guide Book. Census: 17 in 58, 25 finer (6/12). (NGC ID# 2B98, PCGS# 10055)
