Elusive Mint State C. Bechtler Dollar, Kagin-4(1837-42) G$1 C. Bechtler Dollar, N Reversed MS61 PCGS. K-4, R.4. The N in ONE DOLLAR is reversed. Mint State, problem-free examples of this issue are rare. A die break runs from the rim through I and under NA in CAROLINA. Although the Kagin reference fails to make mention of it, the backwards N is over another partial letter, either an N, an A, or an inverted V (as all the A's are in the legends). It is interesting that the engraver corrected another letter, and in so doing managed to get the corrected letter backwards. Both sides of this piece are semiprooflike, with green-gold surfaces and only small, grade-consistent evidence of contact. Listed on page 345 of the 2007 Guide Book.
