Description

    (1842-1852) A. Bechtler Five Dollar, K-27
    134G. 21C., AU58

(1842-52) $5 A. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G. 21C. AU58 NGC. K-27, Low R.5. Luster brightens the legends of this difficult variety, the only 134 G. August Bechtler issue. The fields are lightly abraded, but the dusky lime-gold toning is attractive. The obverse rim is flat between 3 and 5 o'clock, as made, but from an unknown cause. This is the most available of the four A. Bechtler five dollar types, as the other three are rated as R.6. NGC has graded 28 examples of this variety, but just two of those pieces are graded finer than this AU58 specimen: one at MS60 and the other at MS61. Listed on page 378 of the 2014 Guide Book. Census: 11 in 58, 2 finer (3/14).
    Ex: Milwaukee, WI ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2007), lot 3528. (NGC ID# 2B9Y, PCGS# 10046)
