Description

1852/1 Humbert Ten, K-8, VF30
Ex:
S.S. Central America

1852/1 $10 Humbert Ten Dollar, K-8, R.4, VF30 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America, SSCA 7022. A delay in coinage of this issue from late 1851 to early 1852 caused the overdated date on the dies. The heavy diagonal reverse crack is a diagnostic of the variety. This representative circulated for a period prior to being loaded onto the S.S. Central America and shipped to the East Coast. The evenly worn surfaces display bright, faintly textured surfaces from the shipwreck but reveal no major distractions. The reverse is weak along the left side of the die break, and the obverse is slightly ill-defined along the lower rim.
