    1852 $10 Assay Office Ten Dollar AU53 PCGS. K-12a (1), R.5. The first two lines of the reverse of the 1852-53 K-12 Assay Office tens read UNITED STATES ASSAY / OFFICE OF GOLD, produced under the reorganized firm with principals Curtis, Perry, and Ward after the retirement of John L. Moffat. The earlier ten dollar pieces made in 1851-52 are the same .884 fineness, but the first two lines on the reverse read AUGUSTUS HUMBERT / UNITED STATES ASSAYER. Both sides of this early die state piece have bold border dentils. The surfaces are lustrous and satiny, with bright green-gold color and hints of rose toning. Listed on page 370 of the 2012 Guide Book. Population: 39 in 53, 54 finer (6/11). (NGC ID# ANGV, PCGS# 10001)
