    1852 Humbert Ten Dollar, XF40
    K-10a, Late Die State
    Ex: S.S. Central America

1852 $10 Humbert Ten Dollar XF40 PCGS. K-10a, R.4. Ex: S.S. Central America. SSCA 7011. Struck by Moffat & Co. during its interim role with the provisional branch mint and United States Assay Office of Gold. The .884 thous. 1852 ten dollar gold piece was struck both as an 1852/1 overdate and with a normal 1852 date (such as this coin), with the Augustus Humbert nameplate on the reverse. Kagin-10a is the late die state variety with numerous die cracks, including one through UNITED with the U resembling two I's due to the die crack. Moffat & Co. was dissolved soon after striking the ten dollar pieces. This example shows only minor seawater effects, with pleasing light green-gold coloration and some deeper orange accents at the margins. Housed in its original gold-label PCGS holder. Listed on page 386 of the 2015 Guide Book. (NGC ID# ANGG, PCGS# 10187)
