    AU53 1852 Assay Office Fifty
    900 Thous., Kagin-14

1852 $50 Assay Office Fifty Dollar, 900 Thous. AU53 PCGS. K-14, High R.5. An impressive Assay Office 'slug' that has full plumage detail on the eagle and only moderate wear on the leg and fletchings. Rose-tinged luster outlines the legends. A few of the corners have small dings, with a more noticeable ding on the obverse at 5 o'clock. A small strike-through near the I in UNITED provides an identifier, and the only conspicuous mark is a tick within the reverse lathe work. Most surviving slugs are cleaned or heavily abraded, but the present piece is original and partly lustrous. Listed on page 364 of the 2009 Guide Book. Population: 3 in 53, 12 finer (12/08).
