    1854 Kellogg & Co., Twenty Dollar, AU55
    Long Arrows, Kagin-2

1854 $20 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar AU55 NGC. K-2, R.4. A Choice AU example of the Long Arrows variety, listed by Kagin as the only one with this arrow configuration dated 1854. Additional research shows at least one variant exists with a different obverse die pairing, but this coin matches the variety shown in Kagin's reference. Close examination shows a thick die break curling downward from the bottom arrowhead, perhaps indicating a late die state. Although moderately abraded, this is a pleasing, apricot-gold representative of the Kellogg & Co. Territorial gold. Nice mint luster remains, especially around the reverse devices. Listed on page 391 of the 2014 Guide Book. Census: 19 in 55, 68 finer (11/13).
