1854 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar, Unc Details
    K-1b, Important Gold Rush Issue

1854 $20 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. K-1b, R.5. Short Arrows. This Tall Date variety shows KELLOGG & CO. centered high on the coronet. These twenty dollar gold pieces played an important role in Western commerce between the time the United States Assay Office closed its doors and before the San Francisco Mint become fully operational. The design was modeled after the federal double eagle, which had been introduced only four years earlier, with several notable differences, including SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA in place of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The impression is uniformly strong. Bright yellow-gold surfaces show myriad field abrasions, but Liberty's cheek is clean. Listed on page 407 of the 2019 Guide Book.
