    Description

    Near-Mint 1855 Kellogg & Co. Twenty
    Rare K-3b With Short Arrows

1855 $20 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar AU58 NGC. K-3b, R.5. The obverse has the O of CO on Liberty's hair, while the reverse has short arrows. This private "Territorial" issue was struck in the State of California after the opening of the San Francisco Mint, shedding a bit of light on the limitations of that term. Generous orange-gold luster remains on this scarcely worn example, an aid to grading in the face of significant striking weakness, particularly at the upper obverse. Scattered light abrasions and a few deeper digs are as expected for such a large coin that saw commercial use. Listed on page 387 of the 2013 Guide Book.
