Description

Hefty Proof Restrike 1855 Kellogg Fifty

1855 $50 Kellogg & Co. Fifty Dollar Restrike Gem Proof PCGS. An essentially perfect specimen produced on September 2, 2001. The restrike Kellogg & Co. fifty dollar pieces from 2001 were struck at the Presidio, near San Francisco. This site was close to the Kellogg & Co. private gold mint, which struck a handful of original proofs in 1855. Bay area assayer Wass, Molitor also struck fifty dollar gold pieces in 1855, since the fledgling San Francisco Mint was unable to coin all the available gold bullion.
