Rare K-9 1855 Wass Molitor Fifty
    Details of XF

1855 $50 Wass Molitor Fifty Dollar--Re-Engraved, Polished--NGC Details. XF. K-9, R.5. The massive Wass Molitor fifty dollar gold coins are among the most coveted large-scale Territorial gold issues, and examples are rare regardless of condition. Grading this Wass Molitor fifty must have been a challenge, as the extensive re-engraving on Liberty's hair affects the level of visible detail on that side, and the polishing of the yellow-gold surfaces has effaced any luster clues. Judging by the remaining definition on the reverse, however, XF Details seems appropriate. A coin well worth considering for collectors who might consider the issue unobtainable otherwise.
