    Description

1860 Clark, Gruber & Co. Quarter Eagle, AU53
K-1, Attractive Pikes Peak Gold Piece

1860 $2 1/2 Clark, Gruber & Co. Quarter Eagle AU53 NGC. K-1, R.4. A still-lustrous example with coppery-gold patina in the protected areas. Central details exhibit characteristic striking weakness, although a bit less than is normally seen. A facial mark on Liberty's lower jaw and a rim mark (or possibly a test cut) on the obverse just above 9 o'clock are the two most obvious abrasions. While this is one of the more available Clark, Gruber & Co. issues, most examples are in well-worn or impaired condition. Attractive high-grade survivors are legitimately scarce. This is a fine opportunity for the territorial gold type collector. Listed on page 405 of the 2017 Guide Book. (NGC ID# ANJX, PCGS# 10135)
