Very Fine K-12c Copper Die Trial
    1861 Clark, Gruber Twenty

1861 $20 Clark, Gruber $20 Copper Die Trial VF20 PCGS. K-12c, R.6. This olive-brown copper die trial was apparently carried as a pocket piece, since it could not possibly have passed for a twenty in Old West commerce. A lens reveals occasional faded thin marks, most apparent between stars 5 and 6. The obverse die was later used to strike the gold 1861 Clark, Gruber twenties, but the reverse die differs from the regular issue. Certified in a green label holder. Listed (as a gold issue) on page 391 of the 2013 Guide Book.
From The SPQR Collection. (NGC ID# ANMG, PCGS# 10153)
