Choice AU 1861 Clark, Gruber & Co. Five Dollars

1861 $5 Clark, Gruber & Co. Five Dollar AU55 NGC. K-6. R.4. An original and refreshingly unmarked golden-brown example of this scarce territorial gold issue. The centers are indifferently struck, as usual for Kagin-6, but the peripheral elements are sharp. An important piece for the territorial gold specialist. The Clark, Gruber & Co. mint in Denver, Colorado was sold to the U.S. government not long after this piece was struck, and the facilities were used as an assay office prior to the opening of the branch mint in 1906. Population: 7 in 55, 8 finer (4/05).(#10140)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 6HVG, PCGS# 10140)
