    Description

Elusive Clark Gruber $5 Gold in Choice About Uncirculated

1861 $5 Clark, Gruber & Co. Five Dollar AU58 PCGS. K-6. R.4. Weakly impressed at the centers as usual for this issue, but the peripheral devices are sharp. Traces of luster reside in the fields, and the surfaces are pleasing for the grade. We note a minor scrape below the eagle's beak which touches the wing below and this will serve to identify this specimen. As to the grade, this particular coin is one of the finer ones to survive, and specialists will no doubt give this rarity the attention it deserves for the quality of surfaces and strong eye appeal. The NGC and PCGS population reports tally 14 specimens this high with a single coin graded higher of this issue.(#10140)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 6HVG, PCGS# 10140)
