    Description

(1831-34) C.Bechtler Five Dollar, 150G. 20C. AU 55 PCGS. Kagin-15, Breen-7743. Struck by Christoph Bechtler in the Fall of 1831. The first of two remarkable examples of this rare issue. This piece was struck very slightly off center but has full border beads on the obverse and reverse. Both sides show medium, natural green-gold and pale coppery color and are free of any of the marks or hairlines typically seen.
This variety is significant due to its status as the first half eagle produced by the Bechtler Mint. It has long been regarded as a rarity and it is estimated that 15 to 20 pieces are known. We have never seen or heard of a Mint State piece and can trace only 5 or 6 distinct AUs. Listed on page 274 of the 1998 Guide Book. (NGC ID# 2B9L, PCGS# 10118)

This is a most satisfied customer's testimonial of a true gentleman in today's era. It is rare that one encounters through the course of life a person which one has read in childhood' s classics or seen in movies of old.
