PCGS 1849 Pacific Company Die Trial VF 30. Struck in silver. K-2, High R.6. Very little is factually known about the Pacific Company and their operations. It is believed that their coins were struck by hand with a sledge hammer. This quarter eagle pattern is unknown in an actual gold coin format, but several silver die trials do exist. This die trial we believe must have been carried as a pocket piece and shown as a curiosity. It has moderate wear on the highpoints and there is one distinctive scratch across the cap in the center of the obverse. Uncleaned and original with light to medium gray patina.
