    Description

1852 Assay Office Ten Dollar, MS63
    K-12a, Well-Preserved Lustrous Surfaces

1852 $10 Assay Office Ten Dollar MS63 PCGS. K-12a, R.4. CAC. The widely respected assay and coinage firm of Moffat & Co. was dissolved on February 14, 1852, after the retirement of John Little Moffat. The company immediately reorganized and operations continued under the name of the United States Assay Office of Gold, with Joseph R. Curtis, Philo H. Perry, and Samuel H. Ward as managing partners and the government coinage contract still in effect.

The K-12a ten dollar gold pieces show the O in OFFICE placed under the N of UNITED. The present coin represents the late die state K-12a (2), with weak dentilation on much of the reverse border. This attractive MS63 specimen is sharply detailed in most areas and the design elements show no evidence of wear. The orange-gold surfaces are lightly marked and retain much original mint luster. Listed on page 399 of the 2019 Guide Book. Population: 5 in 63, 1 finer. CAC: 3 in 63, 0 finer (3/19). (NGC ID# ANGV, PCGS# 10001)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
