Description

1866 Three Cent Nickel, Nicely Preserved MS66

1866 3CN MS66 PCGS. CAC. Pale rose-gray patina appears uniformly on both sides of this nicely preserved Premium Gem 1866 business strike three cent nickel. Although there was a plentiful mintage exceeding 4.8 million pieces for this issue, most seen are lightly circulated or in low Mint State grades. Some die fatigue appears on the last 6 in the date and via a small die crack nearby, and a curved lintmark shows just above the coronet. Several die cracks appear on the reverse, an interesting coin, well-preserved yet showing the challenges of mid-19th century Mint technology. Population: 30 in 66 (4 in 66+), 2 finer (4/15).(Registry values: N1793)
