    1866 3CN MS66 PCGS. In 1865, while the Philadelphia Mint continued limited production of silver three cent pieces, a new version of the denomination was produced from a 75% copper and 25% nickel alloy, and these pieces are known as three cent nickel coins today. This second year issue had a mintage of 4.8 million coins, the second largest of the series. However, few survive in top grades such as this lovely Premium Gem that exhibits pleasing gold and champagne toning on its lustrous gray surfaces. Population: 34 in 66 (3 in 66+), 3 finer (1/18).(Registry values: N1793)
