    Description

    1873 Open 3 Three Cent Nickel, MS66
    Sole Finest at PCGS

1873 3CN Open 3 MS66 PCGS. CAC. The Open 3 1873 three cent nickels were struck in an amount about twice that of the earlier Close 3 variant, but PCGS has seen 10 submissions of the Close 3 in MS66, while this is the sole example in MS66 of the Open 3 at PCGS, and none are finer (3/13). Perhaps most contemporary collectors put their circulation strike examples away early in the year and failed to notice the later (admittedly minute) difference. This piece is virtually free of contact marks and shows little contrast over the golden-tinged surfaces. The eye appeal is outstanding.(Registry values: N2998)
