Description

1873 Open 3 Three Cent Nickel, MS66
Tied for Finest Certified at PCGS and NGC

1873 3CN Open 3 MS66 PCGS. Despite having nearly twice the mintage (783,000 versus just 390,000 pieces), the Open 3 1873 three cent nickel is somewhat scarcer than its Closed 3 counterpart in high grades. This Premium Gem example is one of only two so-graded Open 3 coins at PCGS, compared two 10 in this grade of the Closed 3 variant; none have been graded numerically finer of either variety (10/14). This piece displays frosty silver-gray luster with wisps of light golden toning seen when tilted beneath a light. The preservation is consistent with the lofty MS66 grade, and the devices are sharply impressed.(Registry values: N2998)
