Premium Gem 1884 Three Cent Nickel
Key to the Business-Strike Series

1884 3CN MS66 NGC. The 1884 three cent nickel claims the second-lowest business-strike mintage of the series at 1,700 pieces, but the issue is even more elusive than that small figure would suggest. The 1884 is actually more difficult to locate than the lower-mintage 1885 issue, and experts agree it is the key to the business-strike series. Surprisingly, the proof mintage for the year totaled 3,942 examples, more than twice the business-strike output.
The present coin is a delightful Premium Gem, with well-detailed design elements and vibrant satiny mint luster. The well-preserved surfaces display light accents of champagne-gold patina and exceptional eye appeal. Census: 4 in 66, 1 finer (8/12).(Registry values: N4719)
