Description

1884 Three Cent Nickel, MS66
Key Date With Satiny Mint Luster

1884 3CN MS66 NGC. This delightful late-series Premium Gem three cent nickel shows sharply detailed devices and strong satiny mint luster. Intermingled shades of green and lavender toning blanket unmarked surfaces. Eye appeal is outstanding.

Population Data (3/15): NGC and PCGS combined show five submissions of this key date in MS66 with one MS67 finer at each service.

Heritage Commentary: A meager 1,700 circulation strike three cent nickels were produced in 1884, the second-smallest mintage of the series. Moreover, few examples were saved by collectors in 1884, and the date has a low survival rate. In today's market, the 1884 is the most difficult issue of the series to locate, outdistancing even the lower-mintage 1885. The 1884 is the unrivaled key to the circulation strike series.
