    Description

1884 3CN VF20 PCGS. More than twice as many proofs as business strikes were minted in 1884, an unusual scenario for any federal coinage issue, of any type or era. The tiny business strike production of 1,700 examples helps to ensure the key-date status of this three cent nickel, and examples are rare at all grade levels. This VF piece displays surfaces that are smooth and abrasion-free, but moderately worn and rather subdued. Still an important coin that will attract plenty of attention when it crosses the auction block. Population: 4 in 20, 51 finer (7/14).(Registry values: N991)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 275F, PCGS# 3752)

    Weight: 1.94 grams

    Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
