    MS65 1885 Three Cent Nickel
    Famously Low Mintage

1885 3CN MS65 PCGS. The 1885 three cent nickel presents a weird corner-case in U.S. coinage history: a nonzero business strike mintage is smaller than the proof mintage, 3,790 specimens versus 1,000 business strikes. Any example of the circulation 1885 three cent nickel is prized, but especially a Gem such as the present piece. Softly struck with subtly frosted luster, it has clear business strike characteristics under medium-gray patina with gold and olive overtones. The coin's holder, a first-generation PCGS "rattler," is a welcome bonus. Population: 12 in 65, 12 finer (1/12).
