Description

1885 Three Cent Nickel, MS65
Underrated Circulation Strike

1885 3CN MS65 PCGS. An underrated and important rarity, the 1885 three cent nickel had a mintage of only 1,000 circulation strikes, far fewer than the 3,790 proofs coined that year. Aside from proof-only issues, this is one of only a few 19th century American coinage issues where proof production exceeded the circulation strike mintage. This pleasing Gem has delicate champagne toning over frosty gray surfaces and bold design motifs. Population: 17 in 65 (1 in 65+), 16 finer (9/16).(Registry values: N2998)
