Description

1885 Nickel Three Cent, MS66
Condition Census Rarity

1885 3CN MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1885 three cent nickel claims the lowest circulation-strike mintage of the series: 1,000 coins. In circulated grades, this issue is the key to the series, and Mint State pieces are scarce at any numeric level. This Premium Gem CAC coin is a Condition Census rarity. The strike is sharp, and the champagne-tinted luster appears almost flawlessly preserved. Each side displays a soft, luminous glow. We have previously offered only 10 Premium Gems in a more than 20-year record. The last PCGS CAC coin we handled was lot 2452 of our FUN Signature sale (Heritage, 1/2010), which realized $29,900. A Superb Gem example has not been seen at public auction since 2005. This remarkable coin simply surpasses expectations of eye appeal and quality. Population: 13 in 66 (1 in 66+), 2 finer. CAC: 4 in 66, 1 finer (4/16).(Registry values: N2998)
