1877 Three Cent Nickel, PR66 Cameo
CAC-Certified Key to the Series
1877 3CN PR66 Cameo NGC. CAC. The 1877 is instantly
recognizable as the key to the three cent nickel series. It is a
proof-only issue (as is the 1878) with a low mintage that is
estimated around 900 pieces. This is an especially attractive
example whose surfaces are notably free from contact marks or other
imperfections. Just the slightest hint of pinkish patina is seen on
each side. Otherwise, the devices are frosted and contrast starkly
against the depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields. Census:
64 in 66 Cameo (6 in 66+, 5 in 66★ ), 28 finer. CAC: 50 in
