Description
1856 Three Cent Silver, MS67
Attractive Original Toning and Luster
High Condition Census
1856 3CS MS67 PCGS. The 1856 three cent silver is plentiful
overall, but in high grade it is among the rarer Type Two issues in
the series (the design type produced from 1854 through 1858, with
three concentric borders around the star). Most examples seen grade
in the MS62 to MS64 range, and Gem pieces are scarce. Finer coins
are rare, and the finest examples extant are a pair of MS67 PCGS
coins (one of which is Plus designated). This top-grade piece displays pristine, softly frosted mint luster. Original russet and olive-gold toning casts itself across each side, being most prominent around the borders. The central strike is bold, and no major abrasions are seen. Population: 2 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer (6/23).(Registry values: N1)
