Description

1857 3CS MS65 NGC. Mellow azure-blue coloration on both sides enlivens the obvious clash marks most prominent beneath the star at 6 o'clock on the obverse. The strike is somewhat soft around the obverse rim through ATES OF, but marks are minimal and the eye appeal is large. More clashing appears on the reverse through the denomination, from the obverse horizontal shield stripes. A lovely and enticing Gem of this issue, from the year the "old coppers" were retired. Census: 32 in 65, 14 finer (2/10).
