Type Three Condition Rarity

1859 3CS MS67 PCGS. CAC. This Superb Gem representative of the debut Type Three example is boldly struck, exhibiting frosty luster shining through soft violet, gold, and ocean-green toning. The surfaces are abrasion-free, and the eye appeal is spectacular. Light clash marks appear on each side. Housed in an old green label holder.

Population Data (3/15): PCGS shows two MS67 with one MS68 finer; NGC reports none in this grade but two MS68 finer.

Heritage Commentary: Three cent silver production in 1859 was a moderately low 364,200 coins. Superb Gem representatives of this issue are so rare that they are virtually in a class by themselves.
